I support children and adults during a sacred time of life, from guiding families to creating an advance directive, to assisting with home funerals and green burials.  Every person has a right to advocate for their needs and wishes in order to have a comfortable death.  Empowering families during the preparation, passing, and departure of our loved ones, honors a life well-lived.

With support and partnership, the last breath can be something amazing

What is an End-of-Life Doula?

An End-of-Life or Death Doula assists the dying and their families -

No one is born alone...no one should die alone.  Just as infants have been welcomed into this world with the work of the mother, friends and family - the dying deserve the same experience.

Death doulas advocate and care for the dying and loved ones during times of transition, body care, death and burial.  A doula supports the dying through aiding in the creation of an advance directive, will, POLSTs and other crucial documents to prepare the family time to mourn and celebrate instead of getting earthly affairs in order.

A death doula does not offer medical care but works along side of doctors, hospice aids and family.

About Missy

Missy has been a Montessori teacher for 25 years, serving young children and their families in Arizona, Michigan,  San Franciso &  the East Bay.  Missy graduated from Going-with-Grace end-of-life training center and participated as a student teacher.  Missy runs a bi-monthly doula meet-up group and is creating a curriculum for teachers to use in the classroom to better help young children understand death and how children interact with end-of-life. She enjoys poetry and helping Bay Area artists publish their written work in her spare time.  Missy lives with her ten year old son, husband, and dog in the Fruitvale District of Oakland.  She has been a Bay Area resident since 1998 and spent her childhood in Michigan and San Diego.  Missy practices meditation, writing, painting, and exercise to keep her centered and available to others who are in need of support.
